Rome – An Urban Heritage Territory

In this Learning and Evaluation Situation (LES), students examine the notion of the heritage city. They visit example sites and learn about existing organizations and efforts to protect these sites and to meet the challenges and problems related to their preservation.

Ultimately, students respond to the guiding questions like: How can we preserve our heritage in a developing city? and “Are Heritage Cities a Relic of the Past or a Foundation for the Future?”

Note: This LES is designed for the Heritage City section of the Geography program, but it is also tagged to the History program since it contains many resources that could be useful when studying Romanization.

Pedagogical intention:

Students examine definitions of heritage and explore Heritage sites. Students examine specific heritage sites and determine issues linked to rapid economic development. Students use knowledge by: Establishing facts, Situating and Characterizing a territory, Making connections to facts, and Determine explanatory factors and consequences,
