Rebellions of 1837-38 – Consequences

This Learning and Evaluation Situation (LES) reviews key events of the Rebellions of 1837-38, but includes the perspectives of The Mohawks of Kahnawá:ke, as well as opinions from various historians.

After considering notions of historical significance, students critically respond to the following guiding inquiry question from their own point of view: What were the most important consequences of the Rebellions of 1837-38?

Pedagogical intention:

Students identify events and causes of the Rebellions of 1837-38. Students examine the perspectives of a minority group (the Mohawks of Kahnawá:ke). Students timeline key historical consequences from the perspective of key groups. Students examine and compare historians’ points of view on the consequences. Students use documents to justify what is the most important consequence.
