Part 1: Playful Learning is not just for K: Reimagining Learning Beyond Kindergarten

This article advocates for the continued integration of playful learning beyond kindergarten, highlighting its cognitive, social, and emotional benefits across all grade levels. Drawing from personal experience, research, and Quebec’s educational context, it challenges the misconception that play is only for early childhood and encourages educators to rethink assessment and curriculum design to include purposeful play at every stage.

Pedagogical intention:

The goal is to inspire educators to value and incorporate playful learning as a core part of teaching across all grades, recognizing its role in fostering creativity, problem-solving, and student engagement. It aims to shift perceptions of play from a “reward” or “free time” to a meaningful, intentional educational tool that supports diverse learners and authentic assessment practices.
