Education for Truth and Reconciliation Moodle Course

This 4 part course will guide you through a personal learning journey during which you will reflect on the vital role you play in Truth and Reconciliation:

You will start by learning more about the specific Nation(s) on whose traditional territory you live or work. Then, you will learn and understand some of the historical and present-day Truths impacting education in Quebec and how to better welcome and support Indigenous students in your school. Finally, you will explore ways of acknowledging and respectfully including aspects of Indigenous cultures in your pedagogy. Overall, this course will focus on supporting educators in moving from knowing to doing, that is, making practical changes in their classrooms, schools, and broader communities to become better allies to local Indigenous people in Quebec. 

Pedagogical intention:

Objective 1: Learners will know the 11 Indigenous nations in Quebec and learn salient information about the nation whose traditional territory they live and work in. Objective 2: Learners will know about the Residential School system. They will understand how the educational experiences of Indigenous people in the past have had effects that move through generations and impact learners today. Objective 3: Learners will know some ways of creating culturally safe spaces for learners. They will understand why creating culturally safe and welcoming spaces is essential to meet the needs of Indigenous learners, families and community members. Objective 4: Learners will reflect on their journey and plan for concrete action. They will become more familiar with FNEC Competency 15 and Professional Competency 1 and explain how it is relevant to their professional roles.
