Building Bridges with Blocks is an intercultural project that connects English as a second language (ESL) and French as a second language (FSL) classrooms across Québec to collaborate on creative Scratch projects. Using this free, block-based coding platform, students create and share projects in their second language while developing linguistic, digital, collaborative, and intercultural skills. Resources and support from pedagogical consultants are available throughout the project to ensure a smooth process.
In this hands-on workshop, participants will create an animation inspired by the project, explore how it fosters creativity, communication, and respectful digital citizenship, and learn how to use the Teacher Dashboard to manage classes. They will also discover how students exchange constructive feedback on their projects and how this initiative helps them build pride, curiosity, and a sense of community through language and coding. Anyone can code with Scratch!
