This network activity,
Lachine Canal, Cradle of Industrialization, is being hosted by LEARN in collaboration with
Parks Canada. The intended audience for this session is
Cycle 3 (Grades 5 & 6) Elementary students.
Called “Smokey Valley” by contemporaries of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, explore the rich history of the Lachine Canal with Parks Canada. A true cradle of industrialization in Canada, this key waterway played a major role in the urbanization and economic life of Montreal until its closure in the late 1950s.
