This interclass activity tells the story of the beginnings of industrialization in Canada by presenting the rich history of the Lachine Canal, once known as Smokey Valley to contemporaries of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
A key waterway that was the cradle of industrialization in Canada, it played a major role in the urbanization and economic life of Montreal until its closure in the late 1950s.
This interclass activity lasts 30 minutes, followed by a 15-minute question period.
